Cupcakes!

I’ve recently become mildly obsessed with cupcakes. Okay, I’ll be honest – I am completely obsessed with them. They’ve taken over my dessert dreams. My boyfriend and I plan days around stopping to get cupcakes at various locales.

I really can’t think of a better dessert. Yes, that’s right. I think cupcakes are the best.

This all started a few months ago when I took a trip to the famed Crumbs Bakery that opened in my town. Well, it was love at first sight. I spent a few hours prior to my trip analyzing the menu (something I do before every food trip I make). As soon as I opened that menu page, I was sucked in.

After visiting a hand full of times, cappuccino is my favorite. It was a decadent cream-cheese filling with a thick chocolate/coffee frosting surrounded by mini chocolate chips. S’mores and Brownie are a close second/third.

Since that fateful day in oh so many ways, I’ve been on a quest to obtain gourmet cupcakes anywhere, and any way I can.

The New York Times recently published an article about the growing cupcake trend, and conveniently listed the top 10 in the city. Well, you can only imagine what I’ve got planned.

My first stop was the newly famed CupcakeStop. This will blow your mind. It’s a cupcake bakery, on wheels!!! They travel throughout the city and post their location and daily flavors via Twitter. It really is ingenious. For a bakery on wheels, their cookie dough cupcake was pretty spot on. They’ve even introduced two sizes and gluten free!

I think my next stop will be the famed Magnolia’s on Bleeker St made famous by my girl SJP in SATC. I’ll have to see where the sweet deliciousness takes me from there.

I have every intention of trying any and every cupcake I can get my hands on. I promise to keep you posted on my journey.

The old addage – Starbucks vs. Dunkin Donuts

Last night, over coffee and dessert at my boyfriend’s parent’s house, we got to talking about Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts coffee. This is often a debate I find myself a part of, with extreme feeling.

I can’t say I’m a coffee conossuire. Coffee lover, that I am. I can’t go a day without it. When I do, I feel like something is missing. My whole day goes awry.

But enough beating around the bush. Dunkin’ Donuts by far the best regular coffee. And by regular, I am including flavors. I am partial to the hazelnut with the occassional french vanilla or coconut. I tend to prefer it iced as well, though I’ll take it hot in the colder months. Now onto it’s over priced and snazzy labeled counterpart.

I tend to find Starbucks is used more as a status symbol than actually purchased for a good cup of coffee. I find their plain coffee without any extras extremely bitter and often times burnt. Add some flavor shots (that will cost you and extra 25 cents each), you simply mask the burnt bitters.

I will give Starbucks credit for their specialty drinks. That is something they’re good at, but the amount of calories and price usually keep me away.

So here I stand still a Dunkin Donuts fan to the core. Yes, I’ve tried WaWa, QuickCheck, 7-Eleven and even McDonalds (which is actually pretty good). But I can’t be swayed. Unless I’m looking to carry a status cup down the street or indulge myself in a fall time treat (pumpkin spice latte!) You’ll always find me at DD. To be tried and true to the Facebook group my friend and I started Sophomore year of college when that was cool, I would never cheat on Dunkin.
